Billy Elliot, a life changing musical
On our UK tour in September 2013 we went
to many places, including the Victoria Palace Theatre where we went to watch
Billy Elliot: The musical. At the beginning we thought that it was just a
boring musical but by the time it began it was amazing the lights, the acting
and specially the dancing that by the time it began you were already into the
show.
This musical is mainly about a 11 year old boy called
Billy (interpreted by Ali Rasul) who lives in a northern mining town where the
miners, including his dad and his older brother Tony (interpreted by Deka
Walmsley and Kevin Wathen) are on strike. Billy's father wants Billy to box,
like all his other past generations but he suddenly discovers that he has a
passion for ballet and he wants to follow his dream. Dad disagrees to this
because he thinks it's just for girls and it could change his life forever.
It's an inspiring story that changes the way of thinking of the whole community
and his family.
The actors and actresses did a good job interpreting their
characters, they had a lot of talent specially the main character Billy
interpreted by Ali Rasul, his dancing was wonderful, all the flips and spins
impressed me for his age. I also liked the acting of Joe Massey, who
interpreted Michael. I think he made it even funnier than the book or the
movie, every time when he appeared I'd always laugh. Even though some actors
were better than others I don't think that I didn't like the acting of anybody,
they were all great.
What I really liked from the musical was the dancing and
singing, everybody was so coordinated that it looked extraordinary. I also
loved the effects and decorations that they had on every scene, it
was related to what was happening and it caught your attention. What I disliked
about the musical was that some scenes were very hard to understand because
they mixed two different things and it got me a little bored but the rest was
magnificent.
As I said at the beginning Billy Elliot the musical is a life
changing story that taught me and my classmates that you have to follow your
dreams and never give up even though if the rest don't agree with you, you can
always make a change. I think this story has inspired many people in the world
to follow their dreams and it may have taught other people that they have to
accept people by who they are.
Even though it's an inspiring musical and it is wonderful
I don't recommend it to small children between the ages of 0 until 10 because
it does have some inappropriate vocabulary and actions that little children
shouldn't learn. But besides that I recommend it to everybody who is interested
because I don't think anybody would dislike it. It’s a wonderful show to watch
with friends or with family.
